- Objectives of the Conference

  • The Conference proposes to provide a platform to scientists to take stock of the researches in different arid regions of the world and to identify and set priorities for researchable issues in the light of the fast-changing global scenario, including climate change and human pressure on the vulnerable finite resources.
  • The deliberations and interactions are also expected to highlight new ideas on further understanding of the problems and find solutions that are more pragmatic and doable by the stakeholders.

Taking an interdisciplinary approach, the Conference is expected to discuss a range of substantive themes including :

  • Land degradation and desertification processes
  • Climate change, risk management and bio-security in arid lands
  • Biodiversity conservation
  • Sustainable management of land and water
  • Sustainable food production and value addition of agri-products
  • Mobilizing frontier science, including biotechnology and nanotechnology
  • Harnessing renewable energy sources of arid lands
  • Role of indigenous knowledge, civil society and community-based organizations
  • Livestock-based farming systems with industry and market linkages
  • Gender dimensions and empowerment of women for income generation
  • Socio-economic monitoring and impact assessment including market intelligence
