Résumé
The knowledge of landscape’s water needs and water saving contributes to the conservation of this resource. For this reason, it is important to identify existing plant species and incorporate suitable species according to the local climate and the type of landscapes use, in order to plan a proper irrigation schedule. The following work presents the identification and selection of low water requirement and drought resistant plants ; the zoning of landscapes ; and, an irrigation program, in order to achieve water saving in the UNALM gardens. In this way, 47 tree species, four palm tree species and four grass species were identified in the UNALM gardens that had sprinkler irrigation system from June to July 2017. Using the analytical hierarchical process, nine tree species, two ground cover species and two grass species were selected, which fulfilled the specific criteria for each type of plant. The UNALM gardens were zoned between utilitarian for sports (28,4 %), utilitarian for rest (63,3 %) and landscape (8,3 %). In addition, a consultation system of the identified and proposed plant species for each area was developed. Finally, a sprinkler irrigation schedule was formulated, and the current and proposed water balance were compared, which shows that the new annual demand for the UNALM gardens is, approximately, 85 % of the current annual demand.
