Résumé
This work problematizes the communication responsibility in the contexts of agroecology and rural development. The objective was to investigate how popular communication is present in the Agreste Alagoano and Alto Sertão Sergipano territories and how it contributes to the understanding of agroecology and how the dissemination of these practices in turn, benefit rural development. The practice of agroecological production and the presence of non-governmental agencies that work with popular communication are present in these two territories. In the conceptual field, the use of theoretical contributions in Popular Communication by Freire (1983), Lima (2001), Puntel (1994), Peruzzo (2015) were chosen. Agroecology : Petersen (2013), Caporal e Costabeber (2013), Altieri (2012). Rural Development : Grisa e Scheneider (2014), Delgado e Leite (2011), Sabourin et al (2018), Lota e Favaretto (2016). For the collection and analysis of the results, the qualitative approach was chosen with theoretical input from Strauss e Corbin, 2008. Observations and questionnaires were techniques employed for data collection. Open coding process categories were created in this study, to understand the results and analysis (Strauss e Corbin, 2008). The study points out that : (i) popular communication in the semi-arid territories was strengthened as an alternative to dominant communication, contributing to the valorization of the ways of life in the territories ; (ii) popular communication is still only a fissure within the cultural industry ; (iii) the dialogue between agroecology and popular communication has been strengthened, however more research is needed ; (iv) lack of continuity of public rural development policies, weakens movements and hinders the execution of communication actions. These points open the possibilities to expandthe discussion regarding the communication role in the Agroecology field, as well as for the possibility of developing the concept of “Agroecological communication” within the scope of agroecology studies in Brazil
