Résumé
The protection of water resources gains importance for overcoming dry spelt in arid and semi-arid regions. In spite of increasing water demand, water resources and consequently amount of water have decreased rapidly due to various reasons. Hence, the existing water should be used as efficiently and water losses should be minimized. One of the different ways of preventing water losses is to reduce amount of evaporation. Because, evaporation is the one of most important among several factors causing water loss. More than half of the average annual rainfall in Turkey have returned to atmosphere by evaporating from plants, surface of soil and water. Windbreaks are the one of the most effective ways to reduce amount of evaporation. This study was carried out to determine direction of windbreaks in order to minimize water loss occuring by means of evaporation from soil and plants in agricultural area. For this purpose, the hourly wind direction data measured number 17126 station, which are belonging to between the years of 2007-2010 and 2012-2014, for Eskisehir were supplied from Eskisehir Meteorology Directorate. Because of the fact that, the evaporation measurement was not carried out in this station, the daily evaporation data representing Eskisehir were taken from number 17123 station. Also, the daily evaporation data and the minute wind direction data, which are belonging to year of 2014 for Muttalip area were provided from Eskisehir Meteorology Directorate. The directions of winds causing maximum evaporation was investigated according to years and months. Analyzing these directions, optimum direction for windbreaks reducing evaporation was determined. It is found out from results obtained by analysis that the optimum direction of windbreaks is north-south direction for flat areas close to Eskisehir City Center, on the other hand it deviates from north-south direction to east direction at an angles of 2.8 degrees for Muttalip area. It can be concluded that consideration of these directions during application of windbreaks reduces water losses of soil and plants especially in dry spell and correspondingly water consumptions are decreased.
