Under Micro financing activity, financing to rural people emerged as
a subject of growing importance due to fact that rural people played vital
role in eradication of poverty and raising the total income of the national
economy of India. The rapid expansion of financing to the rural sector has
created the problems of long term and short term finance which cannot be
provided entirely by non-institutional sources. The institutional sources such
as commercial banks, NABARD, co-operatives, Central Bank and RRBs
which can meet the total credit requirements of rural people by supplying
adequate capital at proper time and at the reasonable cost. The study of
financing to working Self Help Groups and pattern of financing of Self Help
Groups in Varanasi District was taken up, to find the out the role played by
Kashi Gomti Samyut Gramin Bank as a development bank in promoting the
economic standard of the poor farmers in the state. The study is based on the
critical analysis of published data available from the annual report of Kashi
Gomti Samyut Gramin Bank for a period from 2006-07 to 2014-15. A host
of other information collected from different sources in the form of both
published and unpublished data has also been incorporated for the purpose 2
of the validity of objectives and to draw conclusion of the final findings of
the study.
The study has been divided into six chapters. The introductory
chapter with socio economic background of U.P., a review of literatures,
objectives of the study. Micro financing, role of special financial
institutions, profile of Kashi Gomti Samyut Gramin Bank, functioning,
terms and conditions of loans, special schemes and incentives, overall
growth of loans etc. have been incorporated in second and third chapter. The
fourth chapter contains the operational analysis of Kashi Gomti Samyut
Gramin Bank from 2006-07 to 2014-15 in the state of U.P.. Fifth Chapter
deals with field study of Kashi Gomti Samyut Gramin Bank operating in
Varanasi district in which various Self Help Groups, saving of SHGs and
loan disbursement to different SHGs etc. have been studied in detail. Finally
in the six chapter the hypothesis of study, suggestions and future scope of
the study along with the broad conclusion etc. have been incorporated.
