Résumé
Remote sensing and GIS technology has been applied for the generation of various thematic maps and their analysis, which has further been used for development priority. Satellite data of IRS P6, LISS-III and DEM data of Cartosat 1 of 2.5 m resolution are taken into account for study and analysis. Other relevant data are also collected from different governmental organizations.
Hydrogeomorphological study provides a broad spectrum to comprehend various dimensions regarding natural resources, their distribution, occurrences, management etc. The study basically deals with the action of water with the landforms, including surface and sub surface water. Thus hydrogeomorphological maps so generated depict important landforms, prospective zones for ground water occurrences and scope for resource management. In the present investigation, morphometry, hydrogeomorphological features, hydrological characteristics and water resources, land and forest resources have been taken into consideration for generating database and priority assessment at micro-level units, i.e., sub watershed and accordingly suggestions have been made for natural resource development planning in Chakia Tahsil (83º 3 ’E to 83º 24’ E to 24º 4’ N to 25º 3’ N), District Chandauli, Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Chandauli district of which Chakia tahsil, is one of the three tahsils that came into existance in 1997 after seperating it from Varanasi District of Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Administratively, Chakia, Shahabganj and Naugarh blocks constitute as the three development blocks of the tahsil. The study is based on personal survey and various relevant data have been obtained from different Governmental Organizations and official web sites.
Remote sensing and GIS technology are the most effective tools in spatial data analysis. It permits to explore not only surface, but sub surface phenomena too. Remote Sensing data helps in studying hydrogeomorphical, hydrological, land use/ land cover and change detection analysis. Hydrological characteristics of geomorphological features can be unfolded with sufficient data. Satellite data and GIS technology provide opportunities for delineation of ground water potential zones. In natural resources management like land, forest and water, remote sensing proved to be a valuable source of information. It facilitates the generation of thematic maps and various other information, which certainly helps in the planning and management of resources.
Chakia tahsil consists of Shahabganj, Naugarh and Chakia as its three development blocks in which Naugarh completely lies in the southern Vindhyan plateau region whereas Shahabganj and Chakia lies in the northern plain region. The Karmanasa, Chandraprabha and Garai are the main rivers coming under this region. The forest is mainly tropical dry mixed deciduous type marked mostly in Naugarh block. The population of Chakia is mainly rural in nature. According to the Census, 2011, the population of Chakia, Shahabganj and Naugarh blocks were 43.72%, 36.36% and 19.92% of total Chakia tahsil , respectively.
