Objectifs
The present investigation was, therefore, undertaken with the following objectives : 1. Identification and characterization ofstress related transcription factors from cotton root (Gossypium herbaceum). 2. Study the differential expression of drought specific transcription factors in different tissues and during stress. 3. Develop constructs for over-expression ofthe candidate gene in plant expression vector and transformation ofmodel plant Arabidopsis. 4. Comparative study ofphenotypes of over expressing and control Arabidopsis lines. 5. Analysis oftransgenic plants for stress tolerance and yield penalty. 6. Isolation ofpromoter by genome walking. 7. Construction ofplant transformation vector containing promoters ofstress related genes. 8. Study ofpromoters ofthese genes in order to identify putative drought specific regulatory elements
