Objectifs
The specific objectives of the study therefore, are as follows : * To understand the groundwater exploration related remote sensing parameters in different geological settings. * To apply remote sensing along with other exploration parameters in four major specific geological settings viz. , unconsolidated rocks, semi-consol idated to consolidated rocks, volcanic rocks and hard rocks. * To carry out the groundwater exploration studies in the four settings with the help of one or two test sites in each setting, using different types of satellite data. * To prepare groundwater potential maps ranging from 1:50,000 scale to 1:l M scale for the test sites by using the hydrogeomorphic and landuse indicators. 6 * To evaluate the remote sensing derived groundwater potential information, along with insitu geophysical and hydrogeological studies for precise targetting as an index of operationalisation scope of the technology. * To apply different digital image pre-processing techniques in order to improve discernability of features relevant to groundwater on the image and develop a methodology for digital processing. * To evaluate the utility of microwave remote sensing sensor - SAR data per se and in conjunction with optical data for evaluating the information on groundwater. * To develop a model GIs to extract optimum information on groundwater. * To carry out a remote sensing and GIS based groundwater exploration model study integrating various thematic parameters in a semi-arid and hard rock terrain.
