Titre : Hydrogeological and environmental studies with special reference to fluoride occurrence in Peddavanka Halla Hirehalla basin Bellary district Karnataka state India
Auteur : Sreenivasan, Garimella
Université de soutenance : Karnatak University
Grade : Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) 1998
Objectifs
The
further studies in PHB were taken up with the following aims and objectives :
1. To study in detail the geology covering the mineral chemistry and
petrochemistry of the rock forming minerals and rocks of PHB and to assess the
various primary sources for groundwater fluoride in PHB.
2. Soil studies including soil chemistry and soil leachate experiments to know the
leachability offluoride by percolating waters.
3. Detailed geomorphologic studies covering drainage characteristics and drainage
morphometry, geomorphic units, lineaments and hydrogeomorphology ; and to
assess the control of the geomorphologic set up of PHB on the groundwater
prospects and also the groundwater quality, mainly with respect to fluoride.
4. The climate ofthe area and its control on the groundwater quality.
5. The detailed hydrogeochemistry of PHB covering various standard
hydrogeochemical classifications, statistical analysis, etc., to characterize the
geochemical nature of the groundwaters and its control on the high fluoride
content of the groundwaters. Also, comparative studies of deep and shallow
aquifers of PHB with respect to general chemistry and also with respect to
fluoride.
6. Detailed geoelectrical studies with main emphasis on vertical electrical
soundings and radial vertical electrical soundings, to assess the subsurface
electrical character and subsurface anisotropy conditions existing in PHB, and
its control on the fluoride content in groundwaters ofPHB.
7. The study of the other environmental factors responsible for high fluoride
incidence in groundwaters ofPHB.
8. The environmental impact of high fluoride bearing waters on the biological
environment of the area and the various factors controlling the toxicity of
fluoride on the human beings residing in the area.
9. An attempt on the bio-defluoridation methods to defluaridate the high fluoride
bearing groundwaters
