Role of climate and tectonics in the evolution of bedrock and alluvial fluvial landforms in parts of Kachchh and north Gujarat

Objectifs
The present study would be an attempt to integrate the
chronologically constrained fragmentary sedimentary records from the bed rock rivers
(Kachchh) with that of a laterally persistent and relatively continuous sedimentary
records from the northern alluvial plain of Gujarat. This will help in developing a
regional and integrated picture of the late Quaternary tectonics and climate from the
arid-semi arid western part of India. The specific objectives of the present studies are :
(i) Reconstruction of climate variability (monsoon) using the valley fill sequences
from the bed rock and alluvial plain rivers.
(ii) Quantifying the rate of incision/uplift and ascertaining the role of tectonics
and climate in the evolution of fluvial landforms.
iii) Develop a model of fluvial landform evolution with emphasis on the climate
and tectonic interaction during the late Quaternary
Mots clés : bedrock climate erosion tectonic study
