Objectifs
The overall objective of the study is to examine the impact of tenancy and owner cultivation of paddy in Madurai district and the specific objectives are the following : 1. To study the cost and return structure of tenancy and owner cultivation and of small and large farmer groups under tenancy and owner cultivation ; 2. To examine the nature and extent of inequalities in per acre net income distribution in both category-wise and size-wise of farmers ; 3. To identify the main determinants of yield and factors causing yield gap with regard to tenancy and owner cultivators and of small and large farmer groups ; 4. To estimate and analyse the input demand elasticities and supply responsiveness of the two category of farmers ; 5. To investigate the labour absorption capacity of each group with regard to their own prices and prices of variable inputs and units of fixed inputs ; 6. To examine the returns to scale of both category-wise and size-wise of farmers cultivating paddy ; and 7. To offer suggestions on the basis of the findings of the study.
