The study attempts to evaluate the new dry farming technology as compared with the traditional dry farming practices. Our main focus is on cropping pattern, soil conservation, water harvesting measures and irrigation facilities. For judging the performance of the farmers education, land holdings, use of fertilizers, use of electricity, cattle etc., at the Taluka level, we have collected the information of the three years with the help of sample survey among different size groups of farmers.

Thus the main objectives of the present study are the following : 1. To study the nature and scope of dry farming. 2. To study the profile of the Jath Taluka. 3. To study the traditional and new techniques of dry farming and their adoption.. 4. To study the changes in cropping pattern. 5. To study the nature and pattern of land holdings. 6. To study the nature and use of fertilizers. 7. To examine the feasibility of various types of soil conservation, land development and water harvesting measures, as well as livestock, implements and the use of electricity.

We also discussed the profitability of HYV technology for irrigated crops and compared them with those of new dry farming technology in the same area.
