The aim of this study is to attempt a geographical study of the drought prone area of Sangli district and to provide guidelines for the3 development of the drought prone area. To achieve this aim following objectives have been considered : 1) To identify the drought prone area of Sangali district (DPAS). 2) To identify the drought intensity zones ofDPAS. 3) To asses the areal spread ofdroughts in DPAS. 4) To study the association of drought intensity with various socio economic conditions in DPAS. 5) To study the changes in socio-economic conditions in DPAS. 6) To study the agriculture in DPAS, in order to understand the utilization ofland and water resources. 7) To regionalize the DPAS in order to provide a base for the agricultural planning
