Résumé
A field experiment was conducted at the P.G Center, UHS (Bagalkot), GKVK, Bengaluru, during kharif 2011and2012 to study the growth and productivity of medicinal and field crops and quality of medicinal crops in intercropping system and cost economics of cropping systems in alfisols of eastern dryzone of Karnataka. The experiment was laid out with 14 treatments, comprising sole crop of 4 medicinalcrops(gardenrue, ashwagandha, roselle and holybasil), 2 field crops(pigeonpea and castor)and various combinations of field crops+medicinal crops adopting RCBD with 3 replications. The growth and yield of pigeonpea and castor were affected due to intercropping of ashwagandha. The sole crop of pigeonpea and castor recorded better growth and yield in season(2011),while in the IIseason (2012), pigeonpea and castor intercropped with gardenrue were better and solecrop of gardenrue recorded the maximum dry herb yield (1.43 tha-1) and rutin content (2.22%).The solecrop of roselle recorded significantly higher yield of freshcalyces (6.75 and 3.37 tha-1 in I and IIseason,respectively) and anthocyanin yield (2.34and1.42 kgha-1in I and IIseason, respectively).The sole crop of holybasil recorded the maximum shade driedherb yield (4.33 and 4.52 tha-1,respectively in I and IIseason) and essential oil yield. The intercropping system of pigeonpea+roselle and castor + roselle had higher yield advantage (LERandATER) in Iseason. While,in the IIseason, pigeon pea and castor intercropped with garden rue showed maximum yield advantage.
