Objectifs
The main aim of the study is to evaluate various methodologies in identifying the initiation or start of the cropping season which will be helpful in assessment of early season agricultural drought. Based on the existing gaps in the field of early season agricultural drought, the following are the main objectives of the proposed research :  To investigate the soil moisture changes before and after the onset of monsoon using the passive microwave sensor data.  To study the early season agricultural drought using the SWIR based indices in relation to the often used NDVI based drought assessment.  To develop a comprehensive Soil Water Balance (SWB) model to estimate the daily soil moisture in the top 30 cm of the soil profile and to derive the area conducive for sowing using the top layer soil moisture derived through soil water balance model.
