The present investigation entitled “Effect of seed priming on seedling vigour, growth and bulb yield in onion (Allium cepa L.)” was carried out at Vegetable Research Station, Sri Konda Laxman Telangana State Horticultural University, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad during Rabi 2017-18 in RBD (Factorial). The lab experiment was conducted in CRD (Factorial) at the Department of Seed Science and Technology, College of Agriculture, Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. Seed of fresh and aged seed lots of onion cv. Agrifound Dark Red having an initial germination of 92 per cent (high vigour) and 70 percent (low vigour) with initial moisture content of 6.443 per cent and 6.618 per cent respectively, was used to study the effect of seed priming on germination, seedling vigour, plant performance and bulb yield in onion. The experiment was carried out with different seed priming treatments at different durations. Hydro priming with distilled water for 24 hrs (T1), Halo priming with 3% KNO3 for 12hrs (T2), Osmo priming with PEG 6000 (-1.0 MPa) for 24 hrs (T3), Sand matric priming with 80% WHC for 24 hrs (T4), GA3 priming @100ppm for 6 hrs (T5) and Control (T6). The non-primed seeds were used as control. Primed seeds by different treatments recorded significant variation over the unprimed seeds with respect to germination, seedling vigour, growth and bulb yield parameters in both the fresh and aged seed lots of onion
