Résumé
Peste des petits ruminants (PPR) is an acute or subacute viral disease of small ruminants cause by Peste des petits ruminants virus in genus Morbillivirus of the family Paramyxoviridae. The disease is characterized by pyrexia, naso-occular discharge, necrotic stomatits, diarrhoea, pneumonia and death. The disease was first observed in 1940 in sheep and goats in Ivory Coast (Gargadennec and Lalane, 1942). In India, the disease was first reported in sheep in the village Arasur in villipurum District of Tamilnadu, South India (Shaila et al., 1989). The disease has been quite common in South India.
