Présentation
Mayhah region, Qalancia District is located in the western part of Socotra. It’s known to be the driest part of Socotra Island. Whit its inner landscape, it receives the lowest rainfall in Socotra. The vegetation cover is moderate and consisted of shrub and pen grassland. Livestock herding is the main economic activities of the population in general, hence water is very important to support herding system and grazing management. The communities in Mayhah villages are settling due to the availability of schools in the areas. Hence there are a year round settlement in all villages. Only herders might move when grazing resources scares and their destinations are towards Ma’ala or Diksam plateaus. Electricity is an important requirement for communities’ livelihood. Current lighting sources are small generators, touches (disposable batteries) and occasionally small solar system e.g. 50wp and 2040 AH. Neither of these resources is a guarantee for day or year long access to electricity.Traditional fuel and maintenance of generators are expensive, not readily available and affected by seasonal availability. This project aimed to help communities acquire solar systems with total household of 271. Project beneficiaries are 271 families with total population of 1420 inhabitants (7335 Men and 689 Women). The project provide a financial saving of US$ 80/family/year and CO2 avoidance of 200 tonnes /year.
