Water Intelligence for the Near East

Water Near East

IHE Delft Institute for Water Education

Titre : Water Intelligence for the Near East

Research & Development

Pays/ Région : Near East

Durée : Jul 2016 - Apr 2018

This project will use the outcomes of the water accounting reports as basis for the work and discussion regarding groundwater extractions and water resource allocations. Groundwater extractions can be estimated, verified and monitored using the water accounting reports, satellite data and field observations. The water accounting reports also provides insight in current water flows in the river basin and guide the discussion of potential water allocation changes. Satellite data also provides information regarding the crop water productivity, which can be used for identifying good practices. Measures for improving crop water productivity will be tested in joint experiments at the LRA field station. What : Reducing water scarcity by meeting supply and demand, maximize re-use and cap consumptive use Why : There is no current measurement-reporting-verification system, and Litani development is driven by (donor-funded) projects. Where : Litani river basin, that also hosts large numbers of refugees Change : Governing agencies and local universities having more in-house intelligence not only to allocate green and blue water resources, but also to monitor, report, verify and enforce using satellite data and field observations.
