Titre : Anticipatory action to mitigate drought-related malnutrition (Ethiopia)

Pays /Région : Ethiopia

Code projet : 21-RR-CEF-007

Durée : Project start : 08 Apr 2021 | Project end : 07 Oct 2021

Présentation
This $500,000 UNICEF project is an extension of the nutrition project (20-RR-CEF-069) under the first tranche of projects under this AA allocation. The main objective of the project is to reduce children’s vulnerability to malnutrition and ensure early referral of acutely malnourished children. UNICEF will counsel 15,776 pregnant women on optimal breastfeeding and maternal diet, counsel 1,642 nursing women with under 2-year olds on breastfeeding skills, train 332 health care workers on infant and young child feeding and conduct nutrition screenings for 54,742 children between 6-59 months. Improving the knowledge and skills of caretakers on optimal feeding practices contributes to preventing drought-induced impacts on child nutrition. Scaling up nutrition screening supports timely referral, which improves treatment outcomes and prevents the health system from becoming overwhelmed with a high proportion of severe acute malnutrition cases with potential medical complications requiring inpatient care. Altogether, the project targets 70,518 people, including 15,776 women and 27,371 girls, among whom UNICEF estimates 8,991 people with disabilities.
