Présentation
The main objective of this $4.1 million UNICEF project is to provide safe water, critical nutrition services, child protection support, and immunization and emergency health care to drought-affected Somalis. Activities include, rehabilitation, construction or upgrading of 12 boreholes and 3 shallow wells, distribution of 5,000 hygiene kits, vaccination of 8,300 children for polio and 44,000 children for measles, setting up 15 child protection committees and providing vocational training for 80 boys and girls to withstand drought-induced hardship, and to screen 115,000 children for malnutrition, provide 45,000 with treatment and counsel 50,000 caregivers on child feeding practices. In total, the water component aims to reach 73,000 people, the health component 91,600 people, the nutrition component 165,000 women and children, and the child protection component 25,000 people.
