Titre : Enhance the resilience of vulnerable populations in rural areas through productive safety nets supported by cash transfers

Pays /Région : Mauritanie

Code projet : MRT-14/F/66508/R

Durée : May 2014 - Oct 2014

Objectif (s)  : 1. Raise and / or stabilize agricultural production activities in valorizing assets and make households resilient 2. Generate sustainable resources through the creation of income-generating activities 3. Enable households to eat properly and eliminate malnutrition through food diversification

Présentation
Creation of assets/training through cash transfers is targeted to the specific needs of the most vulnerable households. Activities help to stabilize populations and invest in their communities, secure household food stocks in the post-harvest period, and enhance and protect community and household assets ahead of the lean season. Interventions support Regional and Community rural development plans, and focus on water harvesting and rehabilitation of degraded fields, all the while ensuring that assets created can be pastoralist-friendly. Activities take into account the seasonality, livelihood zone, and environmental context of each target area, and can include promotion of irrigated crops and pastureland with a particular focus on women’s groups, rehabilitation of degraded land and environmental actions like dune fixing and tree planting. The selection of some for-training activities and in some cases the provision of a small proportion of unconditional transfers will ensure that labour-constrained households also benefit, and WFP will work with communities to encourage women’s participation and primary recipient of assistance within the household.
