The unprecedented exploitation of Africa’s natural resources call for national and regional improved governance and stewardship. The Biosphere Reserve concept has been embraced to bring diverse knowledge, scientific investigations and experiences to link biodiversity conservation and socio-economic development for human well-being and sustainable consumption. Biosphere reserves also seek to address challenges of poverty, climate change, water and food security, loss of biological and cultural diversity, rapid urbanization and desertification. This activity seeks to build capacity of SAC countries in the policy and governance, establishment and management of BRs for achieving the SDGs on people, planet and peace, as part of the Man and Biosphere Programme (MAB).
