Description
The project was aimed at improving the capacity of African water utilities to ensure the safety of water supplies and safeguard public health with increased resilience and ability to prepare for extreme weather events. It was expected to directly benefit the water utilities and their staff, and ultimately at least 100,000 water customers in the 5 targeted countries. The project has implemented a number of activities including : A. Producing four reports documenting the key stakeholders in the drinking water management and highlighting the management status of WSPs and drinking water quality in four countries as follows : 1. Burkina Faso - DWQ Management and WSP Implementation 2. Ghana - DWQ Management and WSP Implementation. 3. Kenya - DWQ Management and WSP Implementation. 4. Senegal - DWQ Management and WSP Implementation. B. Revising the standard 5-day WSP training to include approaches that address climate resilience. The resulting training is now called Climate Resilient WSP training. The main aim of this training is to equip participants with the Climate Resilient Water Safety Planning approach and tools in order to enable them develop and implement Water Safety Plans in their respective utilities. The training also demonstrates how the outcomes from the Flood and Drought Management Tools project (http://fdmt.iwlearn.org/) can be applied by water utilities to support their planning and resilience to climate change.
