Résumé
Alfalfa is a high-quality legume perennial forage with high yield and strong adaptability,which has been playing an important role in forage crops in China.Root system is a direct organ for plants to absorb water,store nutrients and grow and colonize.The development of root system affects the yield,quality and durability of the aboveground part.Drought and cold are the main factors restricting the development of alfalfa industry.In recent years,there have been many reports on the effect of root development status on alfalfa growth,but there are few studies on the growth and adaptability of alfalfa roots under sandy condition of Ordos.In this experiment,six domestic and abroad alfalfa varieties namely Caoyuan No.3,Kangsai,Longmu 801,Zhaodong,Zhongmu No.2 and Zhongmu No.3 were used as experimental materials.The root morphological characteristics and physiological indexes in Ordos region were evaluated and analyzed by variance analysis and correlation analysis using completely randomized block design and Win Rhizo root scanning software.The results were as follows :(1)The root neck diameter,taproot diameter,taproot length,the number of lateral roots,the number of root neck branches,the number of new buds,the depth of root neck into soil and the dry weight of root all increased with the increase of planting years,and the occurrence of lateral roots mainly concentrated in the 0-20 cm shallow soil layer.The total root length,total root length per unit soil volume,total projected area,average root diameter and root surface area of the same variety decreased with the increase of planting years,and the decrease was great,but the total root volume did not change.From the analysis of morphological parameters,Caoyuan No.3,Kangsai and Longmu 801 performed better.(2)The contents of soluble protein and soluble sugar in the roots of alfalfa varieties were higher,and the main nutrient elements were carbon(C)and nitrogen(N).The enzyme activities of Kangsai,Longmu 801,Zhaodong,Zhongmu No.2 and Zhongmu No.3 changed greatly,while the enzyme activity of Caoyuan No.3 was lower,but the change range was weaker and the content was relatively stable.(3)There were 17 kinds of free amino acids in the root system of all tested alfalfa varieties,mainly aspartic acid,proline and glutamate acid.The content of free amino acids in Caoyuan No.3,Kangsai and Zhaodong was higher.(4)When selecting suitable cultivars from the perspective of root morphology,it was suggested that the cultivars with deep root neck,thick root neck diameter,long taproot,well-developed lateral roots and heavy root trunk should be selected.It was suggested that the cultivars with strong cold resistance,drought resistance and stable changes of enzyme activity should be selected to breed suitable cultivars based on root physiological indexes.Based on comprehensive analysis,among the tested cultivars,the most suitable alfalfa cultivars for planting in Ordos sandy land were Caoyuan No.3,Kangsai and Longmu 801.
