"Although past geochemical & biological studies have been conducted on the Lower Jordan River, this investigation is the first study dealing with the ecology of the river while focusing on the quantification of its assimilative capacities with the use of enzymes. Quantification of extracellular enzyme activities (EEA) together with physical, chemical and ecological-related parameters were conducted as these are relevant indicators to estimate part of the ecological state and health of a river, as well as to quantify ecosystem services. The investigation is the first attempt of its kind at quantification of the first step of the biological self-purification capacities using EEA in semiarid-arid area." — from abstract.
