Juniperus sabina an excellent species for desertification control and urban and rural landscaping in arid and semi-arid areas,and is the only natural endemic evergreen coniferous shrub in Mu Us Sandland.Juniperus sabina L.typically establishes with the protection of larger plants in nature,ultimately,established plants emerge into and adapt to full sunlight as they grow.During natural establishment,the leaf form of Juniperus sabina changing with aging and enhancing sunlight,and this transition is accompanied by an increase in the preponderance of scale-like vs.needle-like leaf forms.However,it is not clear that the seedling age process and the response strategy to light stress of Juniperus sabina L.from its initial shade characteristics to light characteristics.Moreover,the response strategy to light in developing heteromorphic leaves and to light stress with the increase of seedling age of Juniperus sabina still unclear.To study light intensity,age and heterophyll effects on physiological and ecological responses in Juniperus sabina L.,based on former research,we sampled different age Juniperus sabina L.(1-and 4-year-old for growing continuously 3 years,young and old cohorts,and mature plants)under low(10%),medium(50%)and full(100%)sunlight to measure the growth,leaf,photosynthesis,fluorescence and photosynthetic pigment parameters by using optical scanning method,chlorophyll fluorescence analysis method,carbon dioxide variable method,spectrophotometry,high performance liquid chromatography method and hand-sliced method.The heat dissipation mechanism and seedling age process based on pigment conversion from shade plant characteristics to light plant characteristics during the regeneration of Juniperus sabina L.were clarified,the influence process of seedling age and light intensity on heteromorphic leaves was analyzed,and the seedling age process of formation of heteromorphic leaves and their different response strategies to light stress were revealed
