Comprehension of the process and mechanism of carbon and water cycle coupling of terrestrial ecosystems is one of the critical issues in global change research.The carbon and water cycle of the arid and semi-arid ecosystems play an essential role in the global land-atmosphere material and energy exchange and are highly sensitive to climatic variations and human activities.Therefore,knowledge of the key factors the variation characteristics of the water use efficiency at different scales in arid and semi-arid regions was crucial to the projection of global climate change and carbon-water balance.Yanchi County has formed an artificial shrub landscape by planting Caragana liouana in the arid and semi-arid desert steppe zone for ecological restoration.The transformation of surface vegetation structure from herbs to shrubs will affect the energy cycle of the ecosystem and changed the carbon and water cycle process in the desert steppe.However,current researches focus on the apparent benefits of ecological governance and seldom explores quantitatively the biophysical processes caused by human activities.As a result,the existing ecological governance projects in arid and semi-arid areas that are mainly shrub planting lack the basis for ecological hydrology.Studying the characteristics of the carbon-water cycle and its driving mechanism in the Yanchi under the background of vegetation reconstruction,it can not only reveal the change mechanism of the carbon-water cycle in the arid and semi-arid regions under the background of human activities,but also guide the production practice of regional ecological governance.Therefore,the research object of this study was the Yanchi desert steppe,we used eddy covariance system,sap flow,and lysimeter and long-term remote sensing data to analyzed the carbon-water cycle and its coupling characteristics are at the level of shrub ecosystem and regional scale.At the same time,we discussed the driving mechanism of the carbon-water cycle and its coupling index(WUE)
