Résumé
This thesis is the preliminary study to a field guide of lichens of Afghanistan. The relevant literature is evaluated as well as the collection of lichens in the herbarium GZU of the University of Graz, with special emphasis on not published specimens. A short insight will be given of geography and climate of Afghanistan, considering especially the provinces of the state. The lichenised fungi (= lichens) and the lichenicolous fungi are arranged in alphabetical order. 262 taxa (245 specimens and 8 varieties, with 9 lichenicolous fungi) are recorded. 42 species are based on unpublished samples, which are deposited in the herbarium GZU. The remaining taxa are cited in 53 publications. The samples were collected in 21 out of 34 provinces of Afghanistan, which comprises only about one half of the whole area of the state. There are no records and samples from the big southern and western provinces Badghis, Farah, Ghör, Helmand, Herat, Kandahar, and Nimruz, as from the provinces Jowzjan, Khost, Paktika, Panjshir and Sar-e Pol.
