Résumé
The here presented diploma-thesis concentrates on influences that a relatively small part of the world ? mainly Europe and the Anglo-American region ? inflicts upon a significantly bigger part of this planet. The Kingdom of Morocco is used as an example to present this exertion of influences, summarized as postcolonial.Even though there is, amongst others, special attention on the history of the country ? especially the colonial history ? to demonstrate these influences, the general attention is on clothing. Clothing, as a part of material culture, is used as an example, to demonstrate the exertion of influences on Morocco and examined via ’participating observation’ as the general method of research. The question attended to will be, in which sense ’traditional’ clothing exists and consequently it will be shown how it is influenced. How do these parts of the world, who posses the power of definition ? also concerning clothing ? determine which garments are seen as beautiful or en vogue all over the world ? Furthermore the thesis concentrates on other postcolonial aspects of clothing in Morocco, e.g. the local effects of international production-conditions and the consequences of global clothing-commerce for the country. The research necessary to author this thesis was conducted during three months in Morocco, mainly in the city of Tétouan.
