Résumé
Although the olive tree (Olea europaea L.) is a drought-resistant crop, the scarcity of water in the soil for prolonged periods can affect the production and quality of the olives and subsequently the products that come from them. To overcome this problem, there is a need to implement irrigation systems that solve the water stress-drought problem in a sustainable way. The objective of this work was to evaluate the response of the crop and the productivity of the water to two irrigation strategies (deficient irrigation and full irrigation). The study was carried out in an adult olive grove (cv. Negrinha de Freixo), with a planting density of 400 trees / ha, located in Vilarelhos (lat. 41 ° 21’N ; long. 7 ° 02’W, alt. 250m). An experimental block design was implemented with two irrigation treatments (100% ETc) and (60% ETc), using drippers with flow rates of 1.5 and 4 L / h and intervals of 1, 3 and 7 days, and not irrigated treatment (NR). Throughout the vegetative cycle, different physiological parameters (water status, gas exchange) and agronomic parameters (phenology, growth, weight, longitudinal and transversal diameter of the olive and productivity) were evaluated. The results showed a significant improvement in the water status of the irrigated trees, which resulted in a better physiological performance in the treatments of full irrigation at 100% of the ETc. There were no significant differences in productivity between irrigation treatments. The results related to the quality parameters showed that in the treatments of full irrigation (100% of the ETc.), the olives presented greater caliber and a higher pulp-stone ratio, in the analysis of the texture, they also presented better results in the skin’s firmness, elasticity and hardness. In irrigated treatments, the water productivity was higher in deficient irrigation treatment.
