Malnutrition is prevalent in Egypt and is leading to a growing rate of anemia among nearly 50% of the population, and has damageing social and economic consequences for communities. Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) has a negative impact on cognitive, physical, and motor skills development, and results in increased susceptibility to infections.
With support from the Danone Ecosystem Fund, Danone Egypt, Danone Research and its local partner the Misr El Kheir Foundation co-created the “Egypt Without Anemia” project. “Egypt without anemia” aims to fight Iron Deficiency Anemia by empowering a network of more than 1200 community leaders, teachers and health care professionals. Overall, the project will reach 245,000 people, with a priority on mums, mums-to-be, and their children.
This project empowers Health Care professionals, community leaders, and teachers on Iron Deficiency Anemia detection and prevention via training and access to medical equipment. Parents and kids are able to gain nutrition knowledge and benefit from Health Care Professionals’ services—from diagnostics to recommendations—to fight malnutrition ; more specifically Iron Deficiency Anemia
