Pays /Région : Somalia
Localisation : Gedo region

Descriptif
Development and Peace – Caritas Canada is supporting Trocaire Somalia with a six-month nutrition project in the Gedo region of Somalia.
It is estimated that 1.3 million people in Somalia will face crisis hunger levels between April and June 2020. The ongoing impact of prolonged drought, recent severe flooding in the south of the country, and increased conflict resulting in large numbers of internally displaced people are the main drivers.
Malnutrition is extremely high in the Gedo region. Among children under the age of five, malnutrition rates are as high as 26 per cent, and it is estimated that over 960,000 children under five will face acute malnutrition through to December 2020.
Through partnerships with local health centers, this project is identifying malnourished children under five and malnourished and pregnant and lactating women in need supplementary food. The project will then provide ready-to-use supplementary food to 4,800 children and 1,600 pregnant and lactating women presenting with moderate acute malnutrition.
This project is part of a larger outpatient therapeutic feeding and nutrition program that Trocaire and Development and Peace are supporting. The budget is $339,000
