Food assistance for internally displaced and affected people in Syria

Syrie

Titre : Food assistance for internally displaced and affected people in Syria

Pays /Région : Syria

Date : 2021 – 2022

Descriptif
Mennonite Central Committee is supporting Forum for Development and Culture with a continued humanitarian food assistance response in Syria. This project is part of the Syrian crisis responses response Foodgrains Bank and members have been supporting with partners which is currently in its tenth year.

The need for ongoing food assistance remains great. High prices, inflation and few employment opportunities, combined with massive displacement caused by the ongoing conflict are contributing to continued high levels of vulnerability among Syrians. Food availability is also limited due to economic sanctions and reduced production capacity caused by drought, fuel shortages and natural disasters.

As a result, families are increasingly adopting more harmful coping mechanisms and taking on debt. In response, this project aims to decrease vulnerability of 6,000 households (approximately 35,706 individuals) by increasing immediate food consumption and reducing negative coping strategies.

A monthly food basket will be provided to each household between July – March. Each basket will contain rice, flour, pasta, chickpeas, lentils, vegetable oil, olive oil, sugar, salt, canned meat, tea and tomato paste.
