Development & Peace – Caritas Canada is supporting Catholic Relief Services – Ethiopia with a six-month humanitarian food assistance response in Tigray region, Ethiopia.
In November 2020, armed conflict broke out in the Tigray region of Ethiopia between federal forces and regional security forces leading to extreme humanitarian need, with refugees fleeing to Sudan and widespread displacement throughout northern Ethiopia. Ongoing hostilities continue to impact the safety and wellbeing of millions of civilians whilst constraining humanitarian access.
