Improving agricultural productivity and empowering women (Burkina Faso)

Burkina Faso

Titre : Improving agricultural productivity and empowering women (Burkina Faso)

Pays /Région : Burkina Faso
Localisation : Koti, Tuy.

Date : 2016 // 2021

Descriptif
Mennonite Central Committee Canada is supporting Office de Développement des Églises Évangélique with an agriculture and livelihoods project in Koti, Tuy. Many people in this community regularly experience hunger and malnutrition, and live with chronic poverty. Although women are responsible for growing food for household consumption, many lack the resources they need to grow enough food year-round. They often have little decision-making power in the household.

Through this project, women’s savings groups are being promoted and supported to help women increase their revenue and secure plots of land. Project staff are working with the community to promote an inclusive understanding of women’s roles in society through “theater forums” and training of community leaders.

In total, 2,022 households are benefitting (about 9,600 people).
