Somalie

Titre : Management and prevention of acute malnutrition in Gedo, Somalia

Pays /Région : Somalie
Localisation : Belet Hawa, Luuq, and Dollow districts in the Gedo region,

Date : December 2021 // March 2022

Descriptif
Somalia continues to experience severe drought, preventing significant crop and livestock production losses. This has led to high levels of malnutrition that is expected to become worse in early 2022.

Approximately 1.2 million children under the age of five are estimated to be acutely malnourished, including nearly 213,400 who are likely to be severely malnourished. Additionally, 3.5 million people across Somalia are expected to face crisis or worse outcomes in the absence of humanitarian assistance.

In response Trocaire will seek, treat, and prevent severe and moderate acute malnutrition in children under 5 and pregnant and lactating women by identifying those with malnutrition and providing plumpy sup (a supplementary food) to increase nutrition outcomes. Trocaire will also work with project participants to increase knowledge and skills on nutrition and infant and young child feeding by providing training on these topics in local health and mobile outreach sites.

The project aims to reach 8,511 people with these activities.
