Sustainable employment opportunities through agricultural livelihoods projects (Iraq)

Irak

Titre : Sustainable employment opportunities through agricultural livelihoods projects (Iraq)

Pays /Région : Irak
Localisation : Sinjar, Telafar and Telkaif districts of Ninewa

Date : December 2021 // November 2026

Descriptif
Mennonite Central Committee Canada is supporting Zakho Small Villages Project with a five-year agriculture and livelihood project in Sinjar, Telafar and Telkaif districts of Ninewa, Iraq.

These districts face high levels of food insecurity since the ISIS crisis in 2014 due to insufficient government support, damaged or lack of infrastructure, limited education and employment opportunities, limited access to agriculture technology and water, and the continuation of internally displaced persons.

In response, this project will work to support households in recovering from the crisis and improving food security by building livelihood assets and increasing the quality and quantity of local products that can be consumed and sold in markets.

Specific activities include training and input support on beekeeping, livestock rearing, improved agriculture practices and yogurt production and constructing water systems and an irrigation channel.

Over five years, the project plans to work with 1,097 households (approximately 6,582 people).
