Providing food assistance in Wolaita District

Titre : Providing food assistance in Wolaita District

Pays /Région : Ethiopie
Localisation : Wolaita District

Date : November 2021 – December 2024

Tearfund Canada is supporting Terepeza Development Association with a three-year agriculture and livelihood project in ten rural kebels of Boloso Bombe and Boloso Sore Districts in Wolaita, Ethiopia.

Chronic food insecurity and poverty are major issues that the region faces which is perpetuated by a decline of agricultural production, poor soil fertility, climatic variability, and lack of resources to purchase necessary inputs.

In response, TDA will work with communities to increase food security by restoring and enhancing soil health as farmers adopt conservation agriculture principles. This includes working with local institutions such as government officials to increase their capacity on conservation agriculture so that support for conservation agriculture is strengthened and maintained long-term in these communities.

Over three years, this project aims to work with 3,750 households (approximately 18,750 individuals). This project is part of the Scaling Conservation Agriculture-Based Sustainable Intensification (SCASI) program, which is being funded and completed in collaboration with The Development Fund Norway.
