Providing emergency food assistance in Palestinian refugee camps
Titre : Providing emergency food assistance in Palestinian refugee camps
Pays /Région : Liban
Date : April 2022 – March 2023
Descriptif
Mennonite Central Committee Canada is supporting Popular Aid for Relief and Development with a 12-month food assistance project in Beirut and South Lebanon.
Lebanon continues to host the highest number of refugees per capita in the world including over 1.5 million Syrian refugees (as of October 2021) that have fled from the Syria war and Palestinian refugees. In the last two years, Lebanon has also been facing unprecedented economic, financial, social and health crises which has strained resources and resulted in high food insecurity rates across the country affecting refugees in Lebanon and vulnerable Lebanese households.
This project aims to increase immediate consumption of food and reduce food insecurity by providing vulnerable refugees and Lebanese families with cash vouchers worth an average of $24 USD per month (value being adjusted monthly to accommodate inflation and rapidly changing food prices).
This project will work specifically in Palestinian refugee camps and will provide assistance to 910 vulnerable Palestinian and Syrian refugee and Lebanese households (approximately 3,500 people).
