Breaking barriers, Improving Girls Education, Hope and Totality (BRIGHT) Niger

Niger

Titre : Breaking barriers, Improving Girls Education, Hope and Totality (BRIGHT) Niger

Pays /Région : Niger

Date / Durée  : October 2019 — 4 ans

Descriptif
According to UNICEF, in Niger 74.8% of girls are married before the age of 18, creating a barrier to education. Another challenge is the physical distance that girls have to walk in order to access education. Long distances, put girls at risk of abduction, sexual and gender-based violence, and trafficking. Early and forced marriage and other social and cultural norms often prevent girls and women from obtaining an education. The lack of available teachers also impacts the quality of education and Niger faces increasing pressure due to population growth. The BRIGHT Project is an initiative to reach vulnerable Out of School (OSS) girls and women, in fragile, remote and conflict-affected areas of Niger. Girls, women, boys and men from these communities, are empowered to overcome barriers, providing them with pathways for inclusive and equitable primary education, accelerated learning, and livelihood training. The project also prioritizes girls and women with disabilities.
