Smart intermediate depth solar irrigation solutions for Senegalese smallholders
Titre : Smart intermediate depth solar irrigation solutions for Senegalese smallholders
Pays : Senegal
Date/Durée : 2018 // 2019
Descriptif
This project tests a range of solar irrigation pumps for depths between 7 and 20 meters in Senegal. The tests do also include a series of field application methods like drip irrigation and mini-pivots. All methods are monitored on technical aspects, economical aspects and adoption processes.
Activités
* Identification of sites, producers and partners associated with the activity : visits of field, partnership protocols, desk study of the Niayes region * Test of solar irrigation solutions for intermediate depths : protocol of test and approach to building the solution * Technical and economic follow-up, including the process of appropriation of solutions : monitored parameters, user and non-user questionnaires (before, during, after), on-site demonstration * Summary of lessons learned : performance and limitations of solutions
Objectifs
The objective of the activity is to pilot the feasibility of solar irrigation solutions, for an intermediate depth of water (10 to 15 m) and specifically : * meet expectations and remove the constraints faced by small producers in the Niayes region * test solutions adapted to the type of plots and the production methods met * propose solutions that are easily reproducible by the private sector through a sustainable private sector
Financement : World Bank
