The overall objective of the extension HEADW Waras program is to deliver home-based quality literacy and numeracy education, health education and micro-business management information to 1,800 women beneficiaries in Waras district. Bamiyan Province Afghanistan. These 1,800 direct beneficiaries did not attended school, are functionally illiterate and are unable to do basic numerical calculations. Considering the success of Bamiyan HEADW project and expanding the same model in Waras district of Bamiyan, IRA is now proposing to extent implementing the same model in the remotest areas of Waras district with the same home-based education curriculum which is approved by the Afghanistan Ministry of Education. The training provided :- • Reading, writing and basic mathematical skills – adding, subtraction, multiplication and division • Family economics • Health and environment awareness encompassing HIV/AIDS prevention, drug awareness and the adverse impact of drug addiction on society • Training on personal and family hygiene practices which is expected to reduce the mortality of children 6 years of age and younger — the group currently with the highest mortality rate. • Training on micro-business skills (micro business/micro income generation business). These sessions help raise the participants’ awareness of opportunities and skills so that they have the opportunity to become self-supporting and/or assist their families and communities financially.
