Descriptif
Since January 2017, Islamic Relief Niger has been implementing an integrated intervention (WASH, food security, health and nutrition) targeting malnutrition and its root causes in Torodi and Say districts. The main objective of the project, which finishes in December 2017, is the reduction of mortality associated with malnutrition amongst children under 5 years of age. After 11 months of implementation, despite very significant improvements, particularly in strengthening malnutrition management and the health care system on one hand, and engaging women in gardening activities to diversify food to prevent malnutrition under 5 on the other ; many gaps in tackling malnutrition related mortality still need to be filled. This proposed intervention is designed to fill these gaps. These include ; 1. The establishment of a new CRENI at the Torodi Health District Hospital to facilitate the management of severe acute malnutrition cases with complications, 2. Increasing access of communities to potable drinking water, and water to promote gardening activities for 50 women. Women will be empowered and supported to improve household food security which will contribute to reducing the risks of malnutrition amongst their children under five 3. Sensitization of communities on essential family practices, gender-based violence and child protection using multiple communication channels such message broadcasting through community radio stations, door to door and focus group discussions 4. Develop the capacities of stakeholders on Child Protection (CP) and Gender Based Violence (GBV). The he project will develop volunteer and health workers capacities in sensitizing communities on GBV and CP and their day-to day health 5. Support 22 CRENAS and two CRENIs in the systematic treatment of malnutrition through the provision of necessary medicines and NFIs.
