Winter 2016 has been one of the most difficult winters in Yemen and winter 2017 is expected to be the same due to severe drop down rate in temperature especially during the night. The extremely cold weather has increased the suffering of the poor who are already suffering because of the on-going war and more specifically our sponsored orphans as they lack the necessary winter clothing and blankets to keep them warm during this season. The temperature dropdown rate has mostly affected areas in the North of Yemen. Particularly Sanaa, Amran and Saada. UN reports are showing increase in health problems associated with the respiratory system and skin diseases due to the cold weather. According to the CCCM cluster there are more 2.2 million displaced people mostly residing in Taiz, Amran, Lahj and Sanaa. As the winter season approaches, the needs for winterization items become vital to support those people who are in need. The project represents one of the IR Yemen lifesaving interventions that aims to reduce the suffering of severely conflict affected people in Sana’a Al-Amana, Sanaa Governorate, Taiz, Amran, Dhamar and Al- Mahweet and Saada through providing winterization items to 6000 families including IDPs, special needs and conflict affected communities. The project will provide each family with winterization package consisting of 2 blankets, 1 mattress and clothing package that is enough for two family members. Therefore, the expected number of beneficiaries is 12,000 individuals.
