Providing a classroom for Namibian school Children

Titre : Providing a classroom for Namibian school Children

Pays : Namibie

Date : 2008-11-17 // 2010-01-12

This project will build a new classroom and library building for 5th and 6th grade children in a rural village in the Caprivi Strip in Namibia. The children are orphaned or HIV infected.

My name is Griffin Vanze. I am currently a volunteer teacher at a primary school in a small village in the Caprivi Strip. I have been here for about one year and will be here for another year and a half. My village needs two classrooms and a library, but the school cannot afford it. I am raising money for the construction costs and I need your help in the funding of the project.

The rooms in which grades 5 and 6 currently learn are mud huts with tin roofs. The tin roof recently blew off in a windstorm. The government has agreed to build a new classroom block, if I can raise half the money.

The Caprivi Strip has an HIV /Aids rate of at least 39%. Alchoholism is a serious problem. 85% of the children in my school are orphaned. I see education as a way of helping these children rise above the astoundingly difficult conditions.
