Titre : Improving Access to Healthy Water and Hygiene Practices for Marginalised Area of Gaza Strip

Localisation : Gaza Strip

Date de clôture : 2018-05-24

Descriptif
The vulnerable population, especially women and children will be targeted to improve their health and wellbeing. Specifically, the focus is on improving access to safe drinking water and disseminating of better hand washing practices and other hygiene behaviours leads to a reduction in water-borne diseases. Also, environment protection awareness will be included to enhance the children and mothers’ awareness on the importance of keeping our surrounding environment safe and clean which is reflected on good behaviour of children on the long term. In particular, the project will include the following interventions : 1) This project will improve the general health and environmental situation for children at kindergartens in Gaza Strip by providing 50 of selected kindergartens with reliable good quality drinking water through installation of small water treatment reverse osmosis (RO) units (Capacity 400 Gallons/day). The RO unit is equipped with filters, membranes and carbon cell to clarify the water and improve the taste of the water. The desalinated treated water will be connected with storage water tanks. 2) On the other hand, the project will enhance the children, caregivers, educators and community attitude towards environment custodianship, public properties protection and hygiene practices. Children, educators and caregivers will be trained on the environment protection and health and hygiene practices. The awareness team will apply the “Child Health” manual that has been recently developed by expert through a current IRPAL project of improving pre-schools education access and quality. Overall, it is important to achieve a balance between hygiene education and ensuring that environmental health conditions are enabling and acceptable. Both education and the appropriate conditions are needed for effective health promotion. More broadly, health should be promoted in all aspects of the kindergartens environment and activities. Adequate water supply, sanitation and hygiene are crucial foundations of this goal.
