Descriptif
The project aims to reduce child mortality as a result of malnutrition among children under 5 years of age in Loga district, Dosso region in Niger. The project’s major objective will be achieved through the following interventions : Improving the capacity of 17 Outpatient Program Centre (OPC or CRENAS) (medical health centres that treat severe malnutrition) and 1 Therapeutic Feeding Centre (TFC or CRENI) (a hospital that treats children who are severely malnourished with medical complications) to provide quality care and treatment through provisions of immediate free access to care and therapeutic feeding programs for acutely malnourished children and those who have medical complications in Loga District. ? Enhancement of awareness on nutrition and thematic issues of GBV/CP among the population living within the catchment’s area of the 17 Community Integrated Health Centres (CIHCs) in Loga District. ? Improving clean water availability in two targeted communities, through modern water points to prevent water-borne diseases amongst an estimated 2000 beneficiaries. Water borne diseases are one of the greatest causes of death amongst malnourished children. With Sida funding, this project will contribute to address the causes of malnutrition among children under 5, as well as lactating and pregnant women. Through planned medical interventions, the project will promote long-term solutions by targeting the lack of awareness on good feeding practices to prevent malnutrition and supporting weakened health services which are not able to adequately address the health needs of the beneficiary communities. The project will also improve access to clean and safe drinking water and sanitation in some of the target villages.
