Pays Niger

The project will implement priority integrated interventions that will facilitate a sustainable increase in agricultural productivity brought about by improved production techniques and technologies and water and soil management, micro-credit activities that encourage productive investments ; and an increase in economic growth in the agricultural sector that enhances livelihood and food security for farming families and communities, creating multiplier effects that drive economic growth. The project will build on the knowledge and insight gathered from emergency, food security, nutrition, livelihoods and NFI programmes that Islamic Relief has initiated in the targeted area since 2005. It will work closely with beneficiaries, local/national government, UN, NGOs, community groups and other key actors to ensure the project is sustainable. The project will promote approaches that facilitate transition, ownership and sustainability ; working with and training the various stakeholders with the objective to have the communities taking over the leadership in developing sustainable agriculture and environmental protection initiatives, developing adapted DRR and CCA measures, strengthen food security, income generation and sustainable livelihoods activities and promote and enhance the role and participation of women in village development, thereby reducing the negative impacts of poverty.
