This intervention builds on Enhanced Vulnerability and Capacity Assessments (EVCA) conducted as part of the previous BRC-supported DM project in Yemen. Using the recommendations from the EVCA’s as a basis, the project for 2020 will focus on building disaster risk reduction through two approaches : 1) community-based preparedness (including supporting the NS to efficiently and effectively deliver these services) 2) risk mitigation and DRR measures particularly focused on WASH support. These areas of focus aim to ensure the recommendations specifically identified by the communities are met to help reduce their vulnerability and meet their immediate needs. The overall goal is to  reduce the vulnerability of communities in Yemen to the effects of the ongoing humanitarian crisis, exacerbated by recurrent natural and man-made hazards. As part of this project, contingency planning and EWS will be established, essential relief material prepositioned, DRR activities will be implemented and access to water ensured for 16 communities across 4 governorates (Shabwa, Al Mahra, Amran, Dhamar). Taking into consideration the current pandemic of COVID-19, the programme will also include risk communication and awareness sessions on hygiene promotion.
